Advies: Luister altijd direct via onze eigen website.
Dubbele compressie (bijv.

Welcome to our platform (founded on 26 January 2020)
We are a group of radio makers from various Dutch radio stations who want to contribute to the Progressive Rock movement and offer a good listening experience through our platform. Almost all Dutch progressive-rock radio programmes come together here in one place!
progressieverock.nl De progzender van ONS ALLEMAAL
On this site you will find listener figures and a long list of the last 5000 tracks played on our prog station. That list is kept up to date continuously.
Complaints about Progressive Rock on internet radios (a useful note)
We get a lot of questions and complaints about internet radios and not being able to receive Progressive Rock.
Below I explain how it works, and why it sometimes does not.
There are many radio portals on the internet. You recognise them by websites full of dozens or hundreds of internet radio stations (for example TuneIn.com, internet-radio.com). These portals automatically index every radio stream they find and add them without being asked. We have no influence over that, no access to it, and often do not even know about it.
When you buy an internet radio (at Coolblue, Mediamarkt, Bol.com and so on), such a portal is usually built in. Each brand uses a different portal. If our station suddenly disappears or stops working there, we only notice when complaints come in. We cannot change that, because these are external portals we have no access to and no contact with.
Advice: always listen directly via our own website. On more expensive internet radios you can also enter our stream URL by hand. They are listed below:
At progressieverock.nl everything is about the purest music experience. We stream via Icecast2 straight from our own server (from 2001 until 26 September 2026 this was a dedicated server in the Worldstream data centre in Naaldwijk), now from my own home, without compromising on audio quality. Below I explain, step by step, why we are different from most other streaming services.
Until 26 September 2026 we had our own dedicated server in the Worldstream data centre in Naaldwijk. Lately that server seemed to cause all kinds of problems which I myself recognise as failing memory. There were unexplained things you often see with memory faults, and I know that the whole installation and everything on the hard disk not only starts behaving strangely, but actually becomes corrupt. In other words: the whole installation and the OS (Debian 13) break down as the memory fault gets worse.
Of course that could have been checked afterwards with memtest86+ (Worldstream replies within 7 minutes of a ticket, day and night), but there was more to it. Rising costs were climbing alarmingly (because of scarcity of memory capacity, SSDs and so on). That made me decide to host the progressive rock server at home.
I currently do that via an Odido 5G click-and-go connection. On 6 October 2026 fibre is added. Fibre is a connection on KPN and is our main connection (DEFAULT). It is permanent and much more reliable, but when the fibre network fails you often have to wait a day or so before it is fixed. Odido 5G click-and-go is the failover connection (RESCUE). If there is a fault on 5G, it is restored quickly when the whole neighbourhood is down or out — often the same day.
The failover bash script runs every 10 seconds and monitors network 1 (fibre, DEFAULT). If that drops and is not restored within 30 seconds, it switches to network 2 (5G click-and-go, RESCUE). At 3 a.m. (because almost nobody notices then) it tries to switch back. The server is on a UPS at my place, but do not expect much from that: it can last half an hour at most in a power cut, and otherwise it is bad luck.
Fibre and click-and-go (already at least once a day) also regularly get a changing IPv4 address. There are tricks via DuckDNS and the like; that should work on click-and-go, but I found that several solutions did not work. I did it in a radically different way, and that seemed to go well. From home I set up an SSH tunnel to a small VPS, where the connections come out: port 80/tcp, 443/tcp, 8080/tcp and 8443/tcp. Via socat these are forwarded as if they were hosted on the VPS. I have not seen this method anywhere else, but with it, it no longer matters how often the IPv4 address changes. Firewalls and other things no longer matter either.
A home server is NOT comparable to a real server in a data centre, so the following applies:
There can be more outages, for example with network connections. Even though we have a failover backup (5G, RESCUE) next to the default internet connection (fibre on KPN), that does not guarantee that a total outage is impossible. That counts as force majeure. Force majeure also covers the PC breaking, the hard disk, and yes, the memory and other parts. Generally nobody dies if progressive rock is down for a while, so that too is force majeure. There is enough in stock and I make full backups (images) several times a month. It takes me about two hours, if I am there, to repair or replace the PC.
A long time ago someone dropped out because we were not professional. There is a difference between how that person saw and experienced “professional”, and how we (my team) simply want a real progressive rock experience in your living room or on your phone, without it all having to be big and professional. I think that with a station like ours an occasional outage is unavoidable and simply part of it. On the other hand: having rented a dedicated server for 6 years, amounts above 5040 euro in server rent over 6 years, 6048 euro in copyright paid via mijnlicentie.nl to Buma/Sena, plus domain registration, a mailbox and CvdM registration, means we have paid more than 12000 euro in 6 years. How is that not doing our best to be as professional as a private person can be? I think this is what we stand for, and well… it is not going to be more than that. I definitely do not want to become commercial or run it as a business. It has to stay fun, and so far it is.
If there are outages, report them to me on +31 (0)6 81 54 85 99.
Sometimes I cannot fix an outage within a minute if everything is completely down, because I do not have a PC at hand (for example on the bus or train, or at the zoo). Some things can be done from my senior phone, such as rebooting the home server and testing the internet. But that is not a smartphone, and not a laptop or PC!
What makes our Progressive Rock stream unique?
Other services often use shared hosting with predefined panels (Centova, AzuraCast, Everestcast and so on) where you can only upload compressed files (MP3/AAC). Double compression (for example converting MP3 again) leads to audible quality loss. That never happens with us: everything starts from pure FLAC.
2. Direct FLAC streaming without transcoding
The MP3 stream converts once, in real time, from FLAC audio to 320 kbit/s MP3 (minimal quality loss).
The FLAC stream itself passes the original files through unchanged (only players that support FLAC, such as VLC, Foobar2000 or modern browsers).
Because of the change and the new server taken into use on 26 September 2026, with less data traffic available, FLAC connections (slots) are limited to a maximum of 25. If 25 listeners are on the FLAC stream at the same time, it is full. I currently see no way to raise that number.
3. Professional audio processing
Stereo Tool runs on all streams with the original factory settings of developer Hans van Zutphen himself. That gives a consistent, full and clear sound while keeping the dynamics typical of progressive rock.
Summary: no double compression, no shared hosting, pure FLAC from source to listener. That makes our stream unique for anyone who cares about real audio quality.
It costs more than a standard streaming package, but who wants to hear a Steven Wilson track that crackles or sounds dull?

Listening back to broadcasts...
Almost no broadcast can be listened to afterwards, and there is a clear reason for that. As an internet radio we are not allowed by law to make recordings of broadcasts available for listening back. That has to do with copyright and other rules in the Media Act which we have to follow. There is one exception: the broadcasts of Stephan Verrips can (for now, as an experiment) be listened to again. There is a reason for that too. If the experiment succeeds, I will gladly explain that reason in a few weeks.
Costs & donations
Until 26 September 2026 the yearly costs were about 3,000 euro (incl. VAT). From 26 September 2026 that is Odido 5G click-and-go (RESCUE) at 26 euro a month, 1 Gbit/s fibre on the KPN network (DEFAULT) at 45 euro a month (I would have preferred another network for a real failover, but those turn out to be too expensive), Buma/Sena at 84 euro a month via mijnlicentie.nl, CvdM registration as a media institution (required by law) at 320 euro a year, the domain name about 20 euro a year, and the energy costs = no idea. That makes it so far… 2200 euro incl. VAT, or more if the energy bill is included.
Let this be clear: we do not need it! But if you still want to contribute (especially in December, with the expensive month coming up, that helps), make a voluntary donation and keep it nicely small via: steunactie.nl
We deliberately do not want to become a commercial or large station. We keep costs low and do everything ourselves, so we do not become dependent on large donors or advertisers. Our goal is simple: deliver progressive rock to your home, nothing more and nothing less.
Thanks to everyone!
Everyone who listens, donates or makes a programme: thank you! Without you this station would not exist.
